Yeah, that looks like basically the same principle: 'fooling' the physics so that the avatar is on something 'solid' all the way across.

Your illustrations are GREAT. Have you ever submitted them as a ticket (or in some other way gotten them to the attention of a Linden)?

By the way, I notice that the Moles have build 'stick out onto half the sidewalk' platforms on both the North and South sidewalks--so far, one on the South and two on the North. Possibly they saw this as a 'solution' to the fall-through problem, but it ISN'T (I took a photo of my avatar sunk into one of these 'half-of-sidewalk-covered-by-platform' areas today).

I suppose they're too overworked to have checked. But those platforms make it much HARDER to walk along the canal...they have no ramps at either end so if you want to walk along the edge of one instead of walking on the fall-through sidewalk, you have to fly up.

Here are some illustrations of the way I've done this. It is slightly different than the way you described but both ways work.

Rats, I see a typo: I should have named Shahar "at the east end", not Eshmun.

Today I submitted this to the Department of Public Works )DPW):

Walking along the sidewalks on the north and south sides of the Nautilus City Canal entails many instances of falling into those sidewalks, due to the terraforming (which is far below the level of the prims making up the sidewalk. I understand that this can't be changed as it would entail remaking the land mesh, which is not a practical thing to do.)

Question: could sim crossings along Canal sidewalks (both north and south of Canal) be dealt with by using "over-lapping prims" technique? To fix both North and South this would mean 2 additional prims for each of the affected middle sims (at a minimum, along the South: Eshmun, Kothar and Baal) and 1 additional prim for each of the outer sims (Eshmun at the east end and Melqart at the west end). (Similarly for the sims hosting the North side sidewalk.)

I don't know if the Governor could spare a bush or two in each of these sims (assuming the prim allowance is currently all in use, which seems a safe assumption), but the sacrifice would be MUCH appreciated by Residents who like to walk or ride along the canal sidewalks.

Example of what I'm asking about (I'm sure you know about this technique, but for clarity of this ticket:) The Eshmun to Shahar "hole in the sidewalk" is at Y coordinate about 232 and Z coordinate about 22 for both, with the Eshmun X being anywhere from 252 to 256, and the Shahar X being anywhere from 0 to 4. For instance an avatar walking Westward and stepping on Shahar 2, 232, 22 will fall through the sidewalk.

A 10m long Box prim that is the width of the sidewalk would be placed with its center at Shahar 1, 232, 21*, just under the present sidewalk surface. Thus 4 meters of its length would extend (under the sidewalk) into Eshmun, while the other 6m of its length would remain in Shahar. A second such box would be placed with center at Eshmun 255, 232, 21. For this second 'under-sidewalk plank', 6m would remain in Eshmun while 4m would extend into Shahar.
I have used this technique for crossings between sims and have found it to be effective.
Thanks for your time and for considering fixing these 'fall-through' sim crossings.

*I'm not sure if 21 is the correct Z coordinate for keeping the 'planks' under the current sidewalk; I just use that number as an example to illustrate the technique.

I have no idea of what to expect as to a response, but at least this has been asked. We shall see!

Thanks Jean.  I was curious how the number of for-sale lots in Nautilus City compared to the mainland in general.

Sure enough, Tyche Sheperd had some numbers.  She found that about 14% of non-Linden mainland parcels were for sale.  That figure is from the end of December.

I would like to see a median average that excludes the top 25% and bottom 25% of the set for sale price.

I don't have the time now to run a more detailed report, although I did a quick median on all the parcel prices and it was L$223,499. You're correct in your assessment to throw out the top 25% because these really have no chance for sale at this stage.

I wouldn't necessarily throw out the bottom 25%. We have an NCA member Sandro Halsey who started out buying parcels in Malchus but is now looking for low dollar and some high dollar deals. He bought a quad from Robin Ivory in Magon last week just after we bought a double. He has also been buying some of the lower L$ parcels.

Also, these sales snapshots won't track private sales from one individual to another unless they were put on the market first.

I'm curious: how (generally speaking) does that 10.4% (up for sale) compare with past 'snapshots'?

It's been so long since I have done these...not sure there would be any relevance. That's one of the reasons I wanted to see how long it would take to do this just to get a sense of what is happening. I'll try to get one a week done on Monday morning and that may show trends.
