Personally, I've used the notecard created by June a lot to have a look around Nautilus (and the map by Autumn). I've noticed that a few other forum members created a notecard giver to distribute the "wonders of nautilus" card. I've seen a few of them around on people's properties and I'm almost wondering if they could be turned into more of a network, so the notecard, etc could be updated remotely. Perhaps, turn the notecard dispenser into like a 'Nautilus Hearld'...something along the lines of:

Nautilus Hearld
--------------------
- About Nautilus (short blurb)
- News (e.g. about the info hub and meetings etc...which could be updated once a month or something)
- Landmarks (Wonders of Nautilus - main part of the card)
- Stores (free advertising for Nautilus themed stores to encourage it)
- Short Building Notes about Minoan Crete and where to find free houses

I code outside second life, although haven't done much in LSL. I've been having a look and while getting objects to communicate is very fiddly (unless you use a listener and that has it's own problems)...but regardless, it might be possible to set up such a system...so that it doesn't require additional server resources (most of the time, once in a while during a manual update it would). The existing notecard givers could simply be substituted lock-stock-barrel if people wanted. 

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in something like this? Is this a bit OTT?

Kaitlan and Autumn, I'm crazy nuts and jumping on the trampoline about the idea!!!!  And very glad you can devise something.

I've got a small history of Nautilus City in the works that you may want to include.

And regarding free advertisement, I'd also encourage non-commercial sites like anyone who has classes, shows, interesting places and  stuff like that.

We've had that invitation, as well as the URL for this site, at the top of the Wonders card for a couple of months (I'd sent out the new version to all NCA members then. But of course some people who'd put up the original giver may not have swapped it out with the one that has the NCA invite and the URL, so further communication about both options is a good idea.)

Yeah, having the new one with an update script, so only the scripting gets changed (and then people one every have to do one more change of object) is a great idea Ponsonby.

umm, slightly ot, but along a similar line and to do with LSL specifically..but Autumn or anyone...just wondering if know any other ways of non-linked, out of range objects to communicate ...baring the 'give inventory' (which has the side effect of triggering the change state...so, so icky...bad programming practice), the 'set remote script pin' which can really be quite useful (although have to be damn careful with script/pin because boy could someone do fun things with this) or I guess if the objects were in the same region you start sending encrypted messages over the listener (but wow lag, and they would want to be pretty encrypted, so inefficent). I mean without the object having to use an off-world server.

Well, there are a few ways to do this. I am using a two, the primary method being a bot, and secondary one being a failsafe just in case the bot goes offline unexpectedly. Unfortunately I have not had much time lately to finish the scripts.

The neat thing here is that once the kiosks are placed we only update the one server and they all update immediately. I am also considering making the kiosks only work when rezed on Nautilus sims.

Thanks, hadn't thought about ways to use bots...but might be something interesting to experiment with.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time to get scripts right...I have a few I've started...but haven't quite gotten there.

Updating the kiosks centrally is neat.
